University of Vigo and Valdeorras regulatory Council to study the effect of fungicides in reds

The research will be made with mencia de Valdeorras in vintage 2014

The Council regulator of Valdeorras will again participate in a study at the University of Vigo. This time will be to investigate the effects of fungicides on the quality and safety of the Galician wines. The red wine chosen for the study is the variety Mencía de Valdeorras. With her will study the implications arising from the implementation of new fungal substances for pest control of the vineyard on the hygienic-sanitary quality of the wines obtained and their sensory quality. This project is funded by the Xunta de Galicia through the program “research projects” for emerging researchers.

The study will begin with the campaign’s harvest from September onwards and will be led by the researcher Raquel Rial group of agri-environmental research and food of the Science Faculty of Ourense. The first stage of the research will be the elaboration of wines in different deposits of 50 litres each to what will need about 1500 kilos of grape mencia.
