Granite-based soils

Granite is a rock which can be found in A Rúa, O Bolo, Petín and Larouco. The soils in these areas are loose and sandy in texture, allowing for a slow ripening: during the day they give off heat and at night they cool quickly. The difference in temperature makes it possible to increase the sugar values on account of the sunlight, preventing loss of acidity during the night. These characteristics favour more flowery wines, low in minerals, with important varietal character, which reach the optimum consumption stage before those obtained in heavier soils (argillo-calcareous or argillo-ferrous).
