Alluvial
Alluvial – Soils
Alluvial soils can be found in O Barco and A Rúa, where the age-old process involving the flow of water over flood plains, in this case, the river Sil, combines with the lime and clay dragged from the slopes by the runoff. They are mainly loamy in texture, limey, and sometimes contain clay a little deeper. These soils, rich in nutrients, allow for a high production level, making it more difficult to distinguish the specific characteristics of the variety cultivated.
Terrace Soils
For their part, the terrace soils, which lie from 4-10 metres from the river Sil, in places like Éntoma, Sobradelo, Viloira and Valencia do Sil, are made up of round gravel, sand, clays and brown and grey loam. They drain well, are warm and make for less-acidic wines as the high temperature is maintained during the night.
